Pack prepared for medical emergencies
Cub Scouts in Southend are now better informed on what to do in a medical emergency thanks to paramedic Barry Withers from Southend ambulance station.
Barry, who is also the Scouts' local assistant district commissioner (development), visited the 1st/2nd Eastwood Pack at their headquarters in Rayleigh Road, bringing with him a rapid response vehicle. He showed the boys what equipment is carried, and ran some themed games before demonstrating some lifesaving first aid skills.
The Cub Scouts were also given a personal copy of a First Aid manual which they can refer to if they find themselves in a medical emergency.
Barrysaid: "The Cubs were extremely receptive to what I had to say and, in fact, I'll be going back sometime in the new year to deliver some more training. This is great as there will be even more people around in the local area to help me if I should ever collapse!"
Cub Scout leader John Mills added: "The Cubs really enjoyed Barry's visit. It was a really good and informative evening."
