First aid fun in the community
Members of local Brownie and Guide groups have been trained in first aid under the guidance of ambulance staff.
Paramedic Teresa Shadforth and student paramadic Darren Howell, both from Southend station, have spent the last couple of weeks visiting 8th Shoeburyness (St.Georges) Brownies and the 10th Shoeburyness Guides.
The pair have covered subjects such as how to call 999 as well as how to carry out CPR. They also demonstrated various techniques and took along an array of equipment used in the ambulance service, as well as a fast response car for the girls to look at.
The groups were assessed over the two weeks and then presented with their Girlguiding UK first aid badges.
A spokeswoman for the groups said: "The girls really enjoyed the training and learnt important new skills."
